What Is a Personal Values Quiz?

A personal values quiz identifies which principles and beliefs matter most to you. Unlike personality tests that measure traits, values quizzes reveal what you find meaningful and important—such as creativity, security, adventure, or social justice.

Innerval uses scenario-based assessment across five life domains (Work, Relationships, Personal, Social, and Leisure), grounded in research by Schwartz (1992) and Rokeach (1973). By rating real-life situations rather than abstract statements, your responses reflect authentic priorities—producing a 5-tier ranking from Core Values to Less Important.

Why We Built Innerval

Most values tests ask vague questions and deliver shallow results. We noticed real values show up in how you respond to everyday situations—not abstract self-reflection. Innerval presents concrete scenarios like "Your team proposes a safe approach. You see a creative but risky alternative. How do you feel?" with up to 310 real-life scenarios across three quiz depths.

Innerval is 100% privacy-first (no servers, no tracking), completely free, and scientifically grounded. Your data never leaves your browser—because everyone deserves clarity about what drives them, without sacrificing privacy.

The Science Behind Innerval

Innerval's scenario-based approach builds on decades of values research by Schwartz (1992) and Rokeach (1973). Traditional questionnaires invite social desirability bias—people answer based on who they think they should be. Situational judgment reveals authentic values because responses come from instinct, not introspection.

The 5-tier ranking system uses percentile-based categorization, a validated approach in psychological assessment (Guilmette et al., 2020). Each value is assessed across 5 life areas with a 5-point scale, providing 25-point granularity per value—far more nuanced than single-question assessments.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does the quiz take?

It depends on the depth you choose: Essentials (22 values) takes ~10–15 minutes, Deep Dive (42 values) takes ~20–25 minutes, and Full Spectrum (62 values) takes ~30–45 minutes. You can skip values and return to them later. Your progress is saved automatically.

Is my data stored anywhere?

No. All answers are stored locally in your browser using localStorage. Nothing is sent to any server — your data never leaves your device.

Can I retake the quiz?

Absolutely. Use the Restart button at any time to clear your progress and start fresh.

Do I have to complete all values?

No — you choose your quiz depth before starting. The Essentials quiz covers 22 core values, Deep Dive covers 42, and Full Spectrum covers all 62. You can also end any level early and see partial results.

What do the tiers in the results mean?

Values are grouped into five tiers based on your scores: Core Values (top ~16%), Very Important, Important, Moderate, and Less Important. The tiers help you see which values are truly central to who you are.

Can I download my results?

Yes! Once you finish the quiz, you can download your complete values profile as a PDF. It's a great way to save your results, revisit them later, or share them with a coach or therapist.

How does the comparison feature work?

Each person takes the quiz and exports their results as a JSON file using the "Export Data" button. Then either of you can upload both files on the Compare page to see an alignment score, a radar chart of top values, side-by-side rankings, strongest similarities, biggest differences, a tier comparison table, and a category breakdown — all downloadable as a PDF.
